In The Heights x Pizza: NYC Day 1

A great start to my trip to New York! We got in at about 6:15pm EST and we were able to catch an 8:00 Broadway show. We also got some pizza in Times Square and then stayed at my cousin's condo in Jersey City.

Gate 35 at the Virgin Air terminal. Stephen passed out and I had my headphones on. We almost missed our flight lol.

Spent nearly $20 on two breakfast combos at Burger King. GODDAMN!! But this was tasty.

From the airport, we took a taxi to Times Square to meet up with Jason. The security at the musical was kind enough to let us leave our bags with them until the end of the show. We saw In The Heights which won the Tony Award for Best Musical in 2008.

Playbill. The story is about a small Hispanic community (Domincans, Puerto Ricans, Mexicans) with some main characters that struggle financially and socially with a winning lotto ticket. A great story and musical! It embodied the Hispanic culture with hip-hop. Lots of cool shoes too haha.

The main reason why Jason picked this play however, was because he lives in Washington Heights where the story is based. He says that they have his area spot on with the set. So I guess Jason lives on a 1200 square foot block with transparent brick buildings.

Jason, Stephen, Me.

Times Square.

Jason wanted to go to an Indian hole-in-the-wall spot for some late night food.

We walked about 8 blocks down with our luggage, realized that he overshot the street by 4 blocks (so we walked back), only to find that the spot closed. Complete and utter fail.

And it started to pour...

We were back in Times Square so we went to the pizza spot.

Very tasty, but probably because we were just starving.

They also made a pizookie for us. I think we spent about $30 on a few slices of pizza and this. They sure know how to gauge you.

Jason headed back to the Heights. My cousin Christine was kind enough to pick us up and let us stay with her at her condo in Jersey City. Check the ceiling of her car. GHETTO!!

But when we got to her place, we were pleasantly surprised that she lived at the Trump Towers condominium. Major upgrade to staying with Jason in Washington Heights. In the lap of luxury. This is just the lobby.

49 floors total. Any Elf fans out there?

And my cousin was kind enough to draw us a map to the subway station so we can go adventure in NYC on our own the next day. She's the best.

More pictures of her spot and NYC are in the works. Lovin' it here!
